Man in a Running Pose Cardiovascular fitness training is any form of exercise that increases a person’s heart rate and circulation of blood which in turn improves the ability of the heart and lung to supply oxygen rich blood to the muscles being used which will so improve the ability of those muscles to use oxygen efficiently to create energy for movement.

Cardiovascular training has many health related benefits. Understanding the importance of these benefits and what type of activities promote them will greatly help a person build a workout program to reach whatever fitness goals they may have, such as competitive sport, running a marathon, or training for an adventure race.

Benefits consist of

  1. Strengthens the heart which improves stroke volume (the amount of blood able to be pumped by the heart)
  2. Prevents or lowers the risk of heart disease and health disorders such as diabetes
  3. Increase Metabolism
  4. Increase cardiovascular endurance and recovery.
  5. Uses majority of large muscles in the body
